Some clients are looking for a particular size or shape of bike that is difficult to find - a very large frame, for example, or unusually high handlebars, others start off by saying that they don't know anything about bikes, they just know they want a bike for a particular purpose - that's fine, as long as I know what you will be using the bike for I can build one to suit you.
High Handlebar ConversionsBicycles modified for people who prefer a more upright riding positionMany people find that the handlebars on their bike are too low or too far forward, leading to back or neck pain and often causing them to lean further forward on the saddle than is comfortable.
Sometimes the root of these problems is that the bicycle is too large or the saddle does not suit the rider, but often it is simply because the handlebars are too low for comfort, and few modern bicycles are available with old fashioned Dutch-style high handlebars.
Women in particular may suffer from backache or sore shoulders/arms/hands because most bikes are sized for average or larger-than-average men. Even women-specific bikes often have handlebars which are too low or far away from the saddle, meaning that you must either strain your back or overstretch your arms. Does this sound familiar? Bring your bike in for modification to try out some riser handlebars or a shorter stem for a weekend or a couple of weeks.
