Sell me your old bike or bike components

I am potentially interested in buying your old bike, even if it is damaged or incomplete

I pay cash for used bicycles, damaged bicycles, or bike components. Please  ring  if you would like me to arrange for you to bring your bike to my workshop so that I can make you an offer. If you have something really special you can ring to discuss whether I might be willing to collect it

IMPORTANT: in order to avoid buying stolen goods I require proof of ID and proof of address from all individuals who sell me a bike. Please provide a form of photo ID, e.g. a driving licence, ID card or similar; and proof of address in the form of a bank statement, utility bill, council tax bill or similar. If you cannot provide any ID, or if you are unwilling for me to photocopy it and keep it in my records, please do
not ask me to buy your bike.

Strict Anti-Theft Precautions

Measures taken to help prevent buying and selling stolen goods

All bikes I sell come with a certificate issued by www.checkmend.com, the database used by the majority of UK police forces to check property theft. This certificate means that the bike you are buying is guaranteed not to have been reported as lost or stolen.

As an additional precaution I request proof of ID and proof of address from individuals from whom I buy second-hand bikes. I keep proper records of all bikes bought and sold including make, model and frame number, meaning you will be able to  find it on the database and contact me if it is ever recovered, and I can attempt to reunite you with it!

Any found or donated bikes whose provenance cannot be adequately identified are reported to cheshire police where they will compare the description and frame number with their records and keep the details on file, only after 6 weeks, and if a bike of matching description has not been reported stolen, is the bike is considered legitimate and put up for sale

Reasons to buy a used cycle

Why buy a used bike instead of a new one?

  1. Value for money: You get almost twice as much bike for your cash!
  2.  A second-hand bike purchased for £150 is likely to be better than a new £250 bike will be after  only 1 year of use. (And please do not spend less than £250 on a new bike, it is  false economy and you will regret it in a year or two). If you're planning on doing anything more than just commuting and cycling locally then I suggest you spend no less than £500 on a new bike. In contrast, as little as £200 would buy a very capable and reliable mountain bike or tourer, and £500 would buy a superb tailor-made second-hand mountain bike, tourer or sports bike.

  3. Environmentally friendly: Repairing and re-using a bike is an environmentally sound option. It means one less old bike in landfill, and one less new bike being manufactured - with a consequent saving in materials and energy.

  4. Bike theft: A second-hand bike is far less attractive to thieves, and less is lost if it does get damaged or stolen. If you have the space to store two bikes, why not buy a cheap £75 second-hand bike for use around town, and reserve your expensive bike for use on occasions when it's less likely to be damaged or stolen?
